Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr. Supports Goodwill in Style & Song

San Francisco - December 31,2014 - You had to be there or you had to have seen the Live shots of KTVU's coverage from the 1500 Mission Street lot of Goodwill as the DonateAthon got underway for San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin counties.

Did you see the Mayor on Mornings on 2 jamming with the Goodwill House Band?  Wow...Wilson Picket's "Mustang Sally"..."Ride Sally Ride..." I do believe they could take that show on the road.

It was a lot of fun for a great cause.  Thanks to donations, Goodwill San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin was able to add 600 new jobs to the economy.  And the goal is to top that for 2015.  Mayor Brown, who has "The Willie Brown Collection" that can be purchased on line told KTVU reporter Alex Savidge  that he supports the organization because of its great work and that he benefited from Goodwill years ago.  One viewer tweeted of the coverage that he thought it was two former San Francisco mayors, Brown and Gavin Newsom (indicating Alex resembles Newsom).
At "Zero Dark Thirty," Mayor Willie Brown Jr. is on hand to talk to KTVU Reporter Alex Savidge as Goodwill President & CEO Maureen Sedonaen looks on before gates opened for the 7 a.m.-5 p.m. DonateAthon.

YEAR End Giving....Consider!  Consider...New Year Giving

When in comes to helping people facing evictions and foreclosures, these two organizations have kept many people in their homes.  Two of the most effective front line organizations, I personally know that have made a difference in San Francisco in keeping people in housing while most say "Oh well," throw up their hands or wish you "good luck with that."  Help make them more effective by donating.

Eviction Defense Collaborative...

The Eviction Defense Collaborative is the principal organization in San Francisco helping low-income tenants respond to eviction lawsuits. Each year we provide emergency legal services and rental assistance to over 5,000 tenants in San Francisco.

Our families, our community, our economy, and our health all depend on the security and stability that come from having a place to call home. Only when we ensure this basic human right can we grow as individuals to produce a just, prosperous, and equitable society. Because of the high cost of housing in San Francisco, thousands of families and individuals struggle every day to meet this most basic human need. Each time someone loses the struggle against eviction and becomes homeless or is forced to leave the City, San Francisco loses a little more of the dignity and diversity that gives it its cherished spirit. About ACCE:  The Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment  is a statewide community organization working with thousands of members in eleven counties creating transformative change by helping ordinary citizens to organize and take action.

California is host to the world's eighth largest economy, yet every day more and more Californians are losing their jobs, falling further behind on their rent or mortgage payments and sending their kids to failing schools.  ACCE is dedicated to raising the voices of everyday Californians, neighborhood by neighborhood, so that our children have stronger communities and expanded opportunities.

"Home for the Holidays" is mockery given the state of evictions, foreclosures and the foreclosures that are impending in San Francisco and the nation.  Much can be and should be said about the eviction and foreclosure fight, but most will not face the facts because the inconvenient truth about the state of the American Dream.

So if you have just a tinge of thought to do something, click the images and donate! Make a difference.  Whether Year End Gift or New Year Gift, ACCE and EDC are worthy of your support.

Happy New Year!

Let's Hope for "Home Sweet Home" and a Happy New Year for Everyone!
