January 5^th National Recognition Day for American Scientist

Gives Birth to an Award Winning Public Private Community Partnership Program in Education for African American Students

In its quest to reactivate a dormant federal law that was passed in 1945 by the 79^th United States Congress under President Harry S. Truman to honor an American scientist, Dr. George Washington Carver, the Healing Institute, Be A Champion Foundation and its collaborative partners have developed the award-winning Carver Scholars Program. The program is designed to address the digital divide and bridge the gap in Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Math and Medicine to prepare underserved students for emerging career pathways.   

On July 19, 2000, the National Conference of State Legislatures along with the National Black Caucus of State Legislatures passed a joint resolution in support of Public Law 290, to place January 5^th on its memorial calendar, to pay annual tribute to Dr. Carver.  Public Law 290, which was dormant for fifty plus years after being passed, it was the first Federal Recognition Day given to honor an American scientist and a African American in this country. Dr. Carver was known as the Father of Chemurgy, as well as the Plant Doctor, Peanut Man, and Wizard of Tuskegee University.

Now with the goal to make January 5^th a reality  the founders of Community Reconnect LLC(CRC) in collaboration with the Be A Champion Foundation(BACF) have realized their goal set several years ago to get all states to recognize this federal law for the famed scientist Dr. George Washington Carver. A letter has been forwarded to President Barack Obama seeking to place this day on the U.S. memorial calendar as we celebrate the 1st annual Dr. George Washington Carver National Recognition Day Celebration in his birthplace the State of Missouri.  This year’s annual event is scheduled for Thursday, January 5^th, 2017, in St Louis Mo. at Exodus Gallery 5075 Delmar Blvd. This Recognition and announcement will the kick-off of the Carvers Scholars Program in St. Louis City/County school districts which will feature its annual Dr. G.W. Carver Chemurgy Exposition (science fair), that will showcase students throughout St Louis city/county school districts plus science projects prepared by African American students in grades K-12 starting 2017 and culminate Jan 5^th of each year thereafter. This unique program started in California sponsored by the Intel Corporation in San Jose CA.

In February 2000, computer chip giant, Intel Corporation joined as a corporate sponsor to develop the model Intel Carver Scholars Program in Silicon Valley.  On September 18, 2000, in Washington, DC, during the 4^th annual luncheon of the Education and Technology Brain Trust Conference sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus, the principals of this unique received special recognition for their innovative public private community partnership educational model. On May 9, 2001, the National Conference of Negro Woman in collaboration with NASA awarded the principals of the Carver Scholars Program their first annual Cyber Generation award as a unique public private partnership. A wide array of community groups, public agencies and private corporations support this educational initiative and this unique STREMM concept is home to Missouri. (The Dr. George Washington Carver Federal Recognition Day has been a catalyst to launch and implement educational programs, which have gained support from corporations, foundations, schools, colleges and universities, and agencies within the state/federal government).
