Dare South Africans dream again as they celebrate their 23rd Freedom Day?

27 April 2018 - 10:01BY DAVID EVERATT

It was just four and a half months ago that Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa won the presidency of the African National Congress (ANC) that governs South Africa.

Pundits said at the time that the post-colonial narrative was fixed: the ANC was irredeemably corrupt, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma would win and protect her ex Jacob Zuma and his legacy, and the decade-long nightmare of Zuma’s kleptocracy would become a decade longer and gloomier, by the end of South Africa would be bankrupt, broken and buggered.

But in the 128 days since Ramaphosa took over the reins, South Africans have had to learn again to imagine that they might be free, and to have hope in the future. 2018 may not feel like 1994, but it comes a close second. The will to believe is taking root.  Click Here for Entire Article on Freedom Day:

Doris Ward, The First Black Woman Board of Supervisor President was honored in January. The event was coordinated by longtime Bay Area Journalist Belva Davis. Person after person after person lined up to give honor and tribute to Ward. After the tributes that included present Board of Supervisor President London Breed and District 10 Supervisor Malia Cohen, true to Ward's persona, she told Belva Davis with a big smile, "That was all very nice, but you didn't give me a chance to speak." "That was Doris always seeking her rightful place to have the last say," said Davis.  Click image to see the San Francisco Chronicle Article about Ward.
