CONGRESSWOMEN OF COLOR BELONG IN THE HOUSE
BY ANH LÊ

The occupant of the White House lashing out at and condemning the four Congresswomen of color by using language which is racist and xenophobic further deeply divides our country and fans an extremist "whites only" ideology.

I highly respect Speaker Nancy Pelosi, commend her for her outstanding leadership, and have strongly supported her over the years.

However, I think that Speaker Pelosi's recent comments regarding the four Congresswomen, Representatives Ocasia-Cortez, Tlaib, Presley, Omar, as being "just four people," which she made following Congress' passage of the $4.6 billion border bill, were unfortunate.

Speaker Pelosi's referring to the four Congresswomen as, "All these people have their whatever and their Twitter world. But they didn't have any following" were not only dismissive of these Congresswomen of color, but was also condescending, and dismissive of many Americans who share progressive goals for our nation.

I would hope that Speaker Pelosi and these four Congresswomen of color will seek common ground to work and collaborate together effectively to achieve what is best for our country. Speaker Pelosi will need the strength and power of these four Congresswomen and the constituencies they represent across the United States.
