Lights, Camera, Action! 
The 17th Oakland International Film Festival (OIFF17) kicks off a series of independent film screenings, panels, and special events on featuring and networking independent filmmakers and amplifying the stories they tell.
Day 1 will begin with an OIFF17 press conference at RBA Creative, 3718 MacArthur Boulevard in the Laurel District 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m., followed by a pre- festival 4:00 p.m. reception at Cana's Bar and Parlor,530 Lake Park Avenue (just a few doors away from The Grand Lake Theatre), followed by a series of short films at The Historic Grand Lake Theatre, 3200 Grand Avenue, from 6:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.
OPENING DAY: 

The first set of short films will begin at 6:00 p.m.

In advance of Dia de los Muertos, The San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Company (SF BATCO) generates laughter and lively thought as it examines life and death with dramedy, "Death and The Artist," October 17 (preview) through November 3, 2019  at Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts.
Touching on moral questions we all face about life, death, inequity, and immigration, with a diverse cast and Latino culture at the heart of its creative adaptation, BATCO's "Death and the Artist," dramedy juggles the past and present.  Click the image or here for more information.  Reserve Your Tickets Here.

"Changemakers" Book Launch & Mural Celebration

The citywide celebration and book launch of Changemakers: African American Leaders in San Francisco Who Made a Difference, an illustrated book of 95 biographies of civic leaders depicted on the exterior murals of the Ella Hill Hutch Community Center - will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the original murals commissioned in 1999 by activist Leonard "Lefty" Gordon and former President of SF Board of Supervisors Wendy Nelder and funded by Mayor Brown's Neighborhood Beautification Fund.

Breed and the Office of Economic and Workforce Development announced a new outdoor concert series in San Francisco. Program will fund outdoor music performances in parks and plazas across San Francisco beginning in May.
Tanisha Nicole Cyprian, a talented emerging business owner at the time of her enrollment in the program that teamed the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Inc. San Francisco Chapter and the City of San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development, continues to grow and flourish recently adding magazine feature appearances to her business strategy. Jackie Wright, CEO of Wright Enterprises conceived and developed the program that gives women well paid training opportunities, is pleased to get reports of women who have benefited from the experience. The Doris Ward OEWD Workforce Development Program was made possible by Mayor London Breed's "Dream Keeper Initiative." Read More.
