Dear Constituents,

On Wednesday, April 15th, at 4:30 p.m. Pacific Time, I am hosting my seventh tele town hall on the federal response to the coronavirus outbreak. This week's discussion will also focus on mental health issues for adults and children related to the pandemic. Hundreds of millions of Americans find themselves sheltering at home and increasingly feeling the strain of not knowing what to do or what comes next;  from safe grocery shopping and where to walk, to paying bills and rent or mortgages. The regime for physical hygiene is well-established: wash your hands; stay six feet away when out in public, stay home, and cover your face. The rules for good mental hygiene are not as clear. I will be joined by Dr. Shashank V. Joshi, Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Child Development at Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Joshi will help answer your questions and I will share with you the latest updates on congressional action to push forward an emergency response funding bill and CARES Act 2, which will extend and expand the bipartisan CARES Act. I am fighting for these packages to include:

  • Additional funding for the Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loans so that every business and nonprofit can stay afloat and maintain their workforce;
  • More funding for hospitals and front-line workers;
  • And ensuring smaller cities and local governments are reimbursed for their COVID-19 efforts.

If you would like to participate in the call, go to https://speier.house.gov/live and sign up to be included in the call list. If you’d rather just listen, you can go to that same link to hear the live stream when the event begins and you can type your questions in the comments section. You can do the same on my Facebook page .

Now, more than ever, it's important that we separate fact from fiction so that we are best equipped to keep the spread of this virus to a minimum and mitigate the impact it will have on our health, communities, and economy.

I look forward to speaking with you and hearing your questions.

All my best,
