September 8, 2023 — Umoja Health is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated 3rd Annual Umoja Health Fair,
set to take place at the picturesque Lake Merritt Bandstand on Saturday, September 16th, 2023, from 10 am to 5 pm. This commemorative event promises to be a day filled with music, entertainment, and most importantly, a collective effort to improve community health.
The Umoja Health Fair has become a hallmark event for Bay Area residents seeking essential health services, information, and a day of fun-filled activities. This year’s musical lineup boasts an impressive roster of musicians, DJs, with the headline act being Oakland’s very own recording artist, Kamaiyah. Attendees at the Umoja Health Fair can look forward to a wide range of offerings, including free vaccinations, health screenings, and valuable information on various health matters. Located near Children’s Fairyland, the Lake Merritt Bandstand will transform into a hub of health and wellness, open to all. In the spirit of community and inclusivity, the event offers attendees access to free health services, a dedicated kids’ zone, complimentary food, and a captivating lineup of music and entertainment, all made possible through Umoja Health’s valued partners. Additionally, residents aged 45 and above will have the opportunity to receive free colorectal cancer screenings. Umoja Health, founded in 2020 by Dr. Kim Rhoades of UCSF, remains dedicated to assisting underserved communities of color disproportionately affected by COVID-19. The Umoja Health Fair is a testament to their commitment to ensuring equitable access to healthcare resources.

On Friday, September 29th at 7pm at Oakland Paramount Theatre, Oakland Ballet Company and Life in Motion Productions presents the Oakland Premiere of Flower, a short film starring and produced by international ballet trailblazer Misty Copeland. One of the pinnacles of the event is the live performance featuring Our Very Own Oakland Bay Area American Ballerina Angela Watson (appears courtesy of San Francisco Ballet Tamara Rojo Artistic Director), the newest member of the corps de ballet at SFB and the new future of ballet who is expected to ascend into the pantheon of principal dancers at SFB.
