THE COMMUTATION OF ROGER STONE'S SENTENCE AND THE RULE OF LAW

By ANH LÊ

What does the commutation of Roger Stone's sentence by the president say about the rule of law and justice in the United States?

Stone had been convicted of numerous felony charges, including lying to Congress, witness tampering, and obstruction of an investigation during the Robert Mueller investigation.

Senator Mitt Romney's words regarding the commutation of Roger Stone's sentence, "unprecedented, historic corruption: an American president commutes the sentence of a person convicted by a jury of lying to shield that very president," are the words of a true American patriot.

The people of Utah must be very proud to have this true American patriot, Senator Romney, represent them in the United States Senate.

Senator Romney's patriotism and leadership reminds us of his own father, Governor George Romney, who was an exceptional governor of Michigan and a man of great integrity.

Congressman Adam Schiff also condemned the commutation, stating, "Anyone who cares about the rule of law in this country is nauseated by it," and that it is an "appalling degradation" of democracy in the U.S.

Yet, Republican senators remain silent on the commutation.

What does that silence say to the people of Utah and the American people?

What does that silence say to the world regarding the rule of law and justice in the United States?

Are Republican senators' silence complicity in the desecration of the rule of law and justice?

Republican senators' silence is deafening and speaks volumes.
